The Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) is a public institution under the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries. It was established by Act of Parliament No. 6 of 1980 and started operations in August 1983. The TAFIRI Act was repealed by Act No. 11 of 2016. The Institute was established to promote, conduct, and coordinate fisheries and aquaculture research in Tanzania, a mandate we have executed diligently for 40 years since August 1983.
