About the Conference

The Fisheries and Aquaculture Research for a Vibrant Blue Economy (FAR4ViBE) Conference is a premier regional scientific platform that unites researchers, policymakers, development partners, and industry stakeholders across the African Great Lakes (AGL) and Western Indian Ocean (WIO) regions.

The 4th FAR4ViBE Conference, taking place from 24–28 August 2026 in Dar es Salaam, focuses on advancing science, innovation, and technology to achieve sustainable fisheries and a thriving blue economy in a rapidly changing climate.

Aquatic systems—rivers, lakes, and oceans—are essential for biodiversity conservation, food security, climate regulation, and socio-economic stability. Despite their importance, these systems face unprecedented challenges including overexploitation, climate change, pollution, and data gaps.

The conference supports major development agendas, including:

  • Tanzania Development Vision (TDV) 2025/2050
  • EAC Vision 2050
  • AU Agenda 2063
  • UN Agenda 2030 (SDG 14 – Life Below Water)
  • Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework

Over 400 participants from academia, government, civil society, regional bodies, and international organizations are expected to attend.
